Headway Jacksons 10k event goes online for 2020

The Headway Jacksons second annual 10K Run will be virtual this year. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the event, which proved to be a great success in 2019, is transitioning to a virtual challenge in 2020.

Runners have the chance to participate in a virtual 10K or 3k race on Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th wherever they are, although there will be three 10k routes provided for runners to use if they wish, covering the South, East and West of the island.

Commenting Bryce Alford, Fundraising and Event's Manager of Headway said, “So many people were looking forward to this year's event after taking part in 2019 and we're delighted to be able to offer these two great virtual races. In fact anyone can sign up for the 3k which is a great distance to aim for as a beginner. With a loss of £100,000 due to Covid-19 and the cancellation of events, the support from the Jersey community will really make a difference to Headway.”

I hope that any of the Island’s runners, the experienced and also those who may have just taken up running as a way of keeping fit and healthy during lockdown can join and help to raise funds for this fabulous charity which provides life changing services to so many islanders.”

The first 200 entrants in each category will receive a medal and whilst there are no performance prizes this year, there are a number of participation prizes on offer in the 10k including a Jacksons Gold Valet package worth £500 and a ten week online personal training with online support from Danny Buckross of DB Lifestyle worth £650 for the top fundraiser!

The deadline to sign up and submit results is Sunday 28th June.

Headway Jersey has over 150 survivors of brain injury registered with them as members and up to 70 who access their services on a weekly basis.

It costs Headway £350k a year to provide all services, with only £29k per year provided by the Government of Jersey.

Headway Jersey has grown from very small beginnings in 1997 and awareness of the work the charity does for those who are affected by brain injuries has increased greatly over this time.

The Headway Centre is now seeing an increase in the number of referrals and the charity currently has over 150 survivors of brain injury registered with as members.

Some members require occasional support, however up to 70 members access Headway’s services on a weekly basis. These services are an essential lifeline for members and also provide support and respite to families and carers who need it most and include neuro-physiotherapy, cognitive therapy and advocacy amongst many others.
