Jacksons sets wheels in motion for Island Games volunteers

The team of volunteers preparing to welcome up to 3,000 athletes, coaches and officials to Guernsey in the next few weeks have some extra drive to get the job done thanks to the team at Jacksons.

The local motor dealership is providing six cars to help the volunteers get about and ensure everything goes to plan at next month’s NatWest International Island Games XIX from 8th to 14th July.

It’s the third time the island has hosted what are known as the ‘friendly games’ and this time around athletes from 14 different sports will be competing.

Andrew Searle, General Manager at Jacksons said, “We are delighted to be one of the lead sponsors for this year’s Games. This is a huge event in the island’s sporting calendar and the fabulous volunteer team play a vital role in ensuring it goes without a hitch so we were keen to play our part and make sure they can get to and from all the different sporting events taking place all over the island.”

Steve Champion-Smith, Logistics Director, said “The support that Jacksons have given us will help us enormously in moving people around the Island during the week and we are very grateful to them. We know the roads will be busy especially near the sporting venues, and we encourage people to think about how they will be getting around and consider active travel.”

The Games first started in 1985 in the Isle of Man with athletes from 15 small islands around the world and has since grown to include 24 member islands.

JET, the ‘giant puffin’, Guernsey’s Island Games mascot will be flying into the Jacksons showroom to check out the fleet of cars for the volunteers in the coming weeks!
