DOUBLE SUCCESS FOR LAND ROVER AT THE 2022 AUTO EXPRESS NEW CAR AWARDS

Land Rover is celebrating double success at the 2022 Auto Express New Car Awards, after two of its models, New Range Rover and New Defender, were victorious over their competitors.

Judges from the UK’s best-selling weekly car news magazine named the New Range Rover the Best Luxury Car at a ceremony in London, while the Land Rover Defender was crowned the Best Large Premium SUV. The Auto Express New Car Awards are an annual celebration of the finest cars on the market, with the aim of informing buyers about the best choices to suit their needs.

The fifth-generation Range Rover was launched earlier this year, reinvented with a focus on modern luxury, thanks to a blend of breath-taking modernity, peerless refinement and unmatched capability. It offers more customer choice than ever before with four, five or seven-seat interiors across Standard or Long Wheelbase body designs, and is available with a selection of powertrains, including an extended-range plug-in electric hybrid, producing CO2 emissions as low as 18g/km and providing up to 70 miles of EV range.

"The car that pioneered the luxury SUV class more than half a century ago, the remarkable Range Rover is back to its best in 2022. All-new from the ground up, the brilliant British machine effortlessly combines traditional opulence, comfort and refinement with state-of-the art technology to deliver an incredibly advanced and appealing package. It’s as happy tackling the Kings Road as it is wading through up to 900mm of water." STEVE FOWLER, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF AUTO EXPRESS.

The Auto Express Best Luxury Car award is the second major honour for the New Range Rover in a matter of months, having received the Reader Award at the What Car? Car of the Year Awards in January.

For the second year in a row, the Land Rover Defender was also recognised by Auto Express, as 2022’s Best Large Premium SUV. Tough, capable and unstoppable, thanks to Land Rover’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (iAWD) system, the iconic 4x4 is now available with eight seats courtesy of the Defender 130, which has an extended body for greater interior space.

"With the Defender, Land Rover decided on a different take when it comes to ‘premium’, proving that utility and an element of luxury can sit comfortably alongside each other – which is where the Defender derives much of its personality from. Beautifully rugged exposed screw heads mix with soft leather, durable rubberized trim, the smartest, most advanced technology and clever, expensive-feeling engineering to deliver something unique in this class." STEVE FOWLER, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF AUTO EXPRES.

The Defender has collected a string of coveted honours since its launch, including World Car Design of the Year at the 2021 World Car Awards.

"We are absolutely delighted to pick up these two prestigious awards for the New Range Rover and Land Rover Defender. Our new strategy sets out how Jaguar Land Rover will reimagine the future of modern luxury, and these models are very much at the heart of that. We are determined to create the world’s most desirable luxury vehicles for the most discerning of customers; vehicles that aren’t just good, but the best, and we’re honoured to see prestigious titles like Auto Express recognising our success in achieving that goal." RAWDON GLOVER, JAGUAR LAND ROVER UK MD.
